So far we are watching Henry and June and its a movie about a woman who is in love with Henry but also his wife June. This story is about Anis Nin’s sexual journey and also the journey of her relationship between both Henry and June. She has some kind of fascination with them and is writing a book about June. This whole story is based off her diary which she did not allow to be published until everyone else was dead. Its not what I would be expecting in a movie but its pretty decent. However, I don’t think I would ever watch it for no reason.

“being different makes them a queer”
There’s a person
who’s different
from those around.
But yet
not so different
from everyone.

Characters- me as the protagonist, no one specific antagonist, familiar would be pictures of family, my traveling companions would be my friends that came with my from high school to college.
main conflict- I think the main conflict would just be getting used to being away at school and getting used to lots of schoolwork.
plot/settings- My plot would start out with me and my life at home, going through school, graduating, and then the transition into college, from me not really liking Indiana until I decided that I like IUP. It would be my own monomythic journey trans
The book Middlesex has lots of queer theory throughout the entire book. I thought I would blog about different examples of it in the book. One I think is the main queer theory point in the book would be that Cal or Calliope is a hermaphodite is very different from the norm. I personally can say that I have never met someone who is a hermaphodite or at least that I know of. For me and for many this is different and therefore considered queer.
Also another thing I found to be different or queer would be the origins of their family. How they were brother and sister and decided to get married. I know that we as Americans make fun of people and say how they are inbred and must come from west virginia or somewhere but still it is hard for me to believe that people actually marry their relatives. This is something that most people find as unacceptable and different. In the book this is definitely an example of queer theory.
Queer Theory
Queer theory is not limited to something that is homosexual. It is about anything that makes us different. It relates to sex, sexual orientation, race, etc. We see how it relates to Middlesex because the main character Calliope or Cal is definitely different. Cal is telling his story how he was born a girl and overtime changed into a boy. This is not something you would think commonly which makes it queer. We normally associate the word queer with gay or lesbian but really what it means is out of the ordinary or unusual.
I’m still thinking of doing some kind of poster that relates the books we’ve read to different archetypes and different stages of the monomyth. I still plan to work with Deb and Holly on this project and hope that we all can get an “A” on the project and in the class!
I think that in the book Middlesex queer theory can really describe situations and characters. Right off the bat you meet Calliope/Cal. She/he tells you about how they were born twice. That is definitely out of the norm, or “queer”. They tell you how on their birth certificate it says Calliope but on their most recent drivers liscense it says Cal. The everyday person that you meet is not born twice and does not have a different name on their birth certificate that is different from their driver’s licsense that indicates a change in sex. This all relates to queer theory because it is not what we would consider homosexual but it is out of the norm.
