The book Middlesex has lots of queer theory throughout the entire book. I thought I would blog about different examples of it in the book. One I think is the main queer theory point in the book would be that Cal or Calliope is a hermaphodite is very different from the norm. I personally can say that I have never met someone who is a hermaphodite or at least that I know of. For me and for many this is different and therefore considered queer.
Also another thing I found to be different or queer would be the origins of their family. How they were brother and sister and decided to get married. I know that we as Americans make fun of people and say how they are inbred and must come from west virginia or somewhere but still it is hard for me to believe that people actually marry their relatives. This is something that most people find as unacceptable and different. In the book this is definitely an example of queer theory.
